horizontal, vertical

The title of the picture series horizontal, vertical (oil and egg tempera on canvas, picture size: 30 x 30cm, since 2007, about 60 pictures) stands for the sign character of that works. There are simple, minimal forms, which fill the whole surface. The picture character could be compared with one short but pithy signal. There is a question of message, which however stays away of specific representation.

The title evokes various associations. On the one hand the vertical direction: man, tower, tree.
On the other hand the horizontal direction: ground, horizon line, bottom. I'm combining together these two directions, setting them against each other or removing them so that small gestures and minimal decisions lead to new picture ideas.

Between the single works there are connections so that the pictures look like a sequence of the code signs of various origin.
Some forms of the series are repeated or varied, similar to one word, which is expressed many times but every time in a different way. Therefore the series could be differently seen that means we could follow the connections between the forms or on the contrary we could ignore them. During the presentation emerge connections between painting, graphic elements and sculptured order.
